Did Dota 2 Reset MMR in 2026? The July Immortal Rescale and Ranked Changes

No, Dota 2 did not reset everyone's MMR in 2026. On July 30, Valve rescaled Immortal MMR to 1-9,500 and kept leaderboard order. Here is what Valve said, what sites reported, and what to do.

Did Dota 2 reset MMR in 2026? Not for everyone. The "MMR reset" headlines trace back to one change on July 30, 2026, when Valve rescaled Immortal MMR so that every account now sits between 1 and 9,500, with the leaderboard order kept. This guide separates what Valve officially said from what news sites reported, then shows what the change means for your rank, your queue and Immortal Draft.

Dota 2 MMR Reset 2026? What Valve Officially Said

It was a rescale of the Immortal ladder, not a reset for everyone. Valve listed the changes under "Matchmaking" in the bug-fix section of its Summer Scrub 2026 page, released on July 30, 2026 together with patch 7.41e. The matchmaking lines say Immortal players' MMR was adjusted, and none of them uses the word reset. There are six:

    TopicWhat Valve's notes say
Immortal MMRImmortal players' MMR was adjusted. In Valve's words: "All players are now between 1 and 9500 MMR."
LeaderboardsRelative placement and leaderboard positions stayed the same.
Immortal DraftThe cutoff remains 8,500 MMR.
Ranked modesRanked Classic and Random Draft are no longer available in Ranked.
Role queue optionA new Ranked Play tab setting selects all roles for you when you have no Role Queue Tokens. It is off by default.
New ranked playersYou get 5 role queue tokens the first time you unlock Ranked.

That is all the Valve notes say. They give no reason and no formula. They do not say how an old MMR maps to a new one, whether 9,500 is a permanent ceiling, or whether the MMR you gain and lose per game changed.

Valve hasn't announced a seasonal medal reset since patch 7.33 in April 2023, when calibration switched to rank confidence instead of a fixed number of games, and nothing in these notes brings resets back. As of patch 7.41f (September 15, 2026), Valve's notes do not change any of the six lines.

What News Sites Reported (Not Confirmed by Valve)

Valve's notes are short, so most of the detail comes from news coverage. Treat this list as reports, not as official facts.

    • Divine and lower ranks were not touched. Hotspawn says only Immortal players are affected. Fragster lists lower ranks as not included, and win.gg expects little or no change outside Immortal.
    • The top of the ladder was reportedly near 18,000. Hotspawn and Fragster both say the highest-rated player had reached about 18,000 MMR before the change. That shows the size of the drop, but it is not a Valve number.
    • Inflation is the suggested reason. Valve gave none. Hotspawn and Fragster both link the change to rating inflation at the top of the ladder.
    • Some players may have lost Immortal Draft access. win.gg says some high-MMR players complained about losing it, and TalkEsport says some may be locked out for now. Both point to the 8,500 cutoff staying put while the numbers shrank.
    • The name. Sites call it a Dota 2 MMR squish, an MMR deflation or a soft reset. Fragster argues it is closer to a compression than a recalibration: the numbers shrink and the order stays. That fits Valve's word "adjusted".

Individual before-and-after numbers come from single reports, social posts or forum users, so we do not repeat them.

What Changed for Divine and Lower Ranks

Going by Valve's notes and the reports above, nothing changed in your MMR if you are Divine or lower. The notes name only Immortal-rank players, and none of the reports we read describe a change for lower medals. Immortal is also a small group: OpenDota's rank data puts about 4% of the accounts it tracks at Immortal.

Valve's notes do not mention the Divine range or the point where Immortal begins, so there is no official sign that the climb into Immortal got easier or harder. They also announce no recalibration. If you are new to ranked, read how Dota 2 MMR calibration works to see how rank confidence behaves. For the medal table, see our Dota 2 ranks and MMR distribution guide. Any table that shows Immortal MMR above 9,500 uses the old scale.

Dota 2 Immortal MMR: What the Rescale Means for the Leaderboard

If you are Immortal, your displayed MMR changed, but your place did not move because of the rescale. Valve says relative placement and leaderboard positions are unchanged, and positions still change with the games you play. Valve's public regional leaderboards (Americas, Europe, Southeast Asia and China) list rank positions, not MMR, so you cannot check your new MMR there.

    • Do not compare old and new numbers. Valve has not published how old MMR maps to new MMR. Old screenshots, guides and targets use the old scale.
    • The Immortal Draft MMR cutoff did not shrink with the scale. It is still 8,500, which is now within 1,000 points of the 9,500 top. In March 2025 Valve called 8,500 roughly the top 0.5% of players. That was before the rescale, and we found no newer figure.
    • The Immortal Draft rules. Immortal Draft is a ranked format with a pre-game player draft. Under Valve's March 19, 2025 update, at 8,500 or higher all your ranked games are Immortal Draft. Matches are private, you need a registered official name that cannot be changed, and you cannot queue ranked in a party. At 6,500 or higher, you only get Immortal Draft when matched with someone above 8,500. The July notes restate only the 8,500 number, so read the in-game text for the rest.

Dota 2 Ranked Changes 2026: Queues and Role Tokens

These changes touch every ranked player, not only Immortal.

    • Ranked Classic and Random Draft are gone. Ranked Classic was the queue where you did not choose roles first (Hotspawn, Fragster). Fragster reads the removal as Valve making role selection the standard ranked queue. Valve did not say that.
    • New accounts start with 5 tokens. You get 5 role queue tokens the first time you unlock Ranked.
    • New auto-select option. The Ranked Play tab has a new setting that selects all roles for you when you have no Role Queue Tokens. It is off by default.

A month earlier, Valve's July 1, 2026 notes changed when a solo player spends a Role Queue Game: you now avoid the cost by selecting at least one of the high-demand roles, instead of both. Valve's notes use both "Role Queue Game" and "Role Queue Token", and we read them as the same unit. They do not say how tokens are earned, so check the Ranked Play tab in your client for the current rules.

If you would rather not earn tokens yourself, our role queue tokens service has a booster do it on your account.

    What to Do Now

    1. Check your own numbers. If you are Immortal, note your new MMR and leaderboard position, and drop any figure from before July 30.
    2. Update your targets. Aim at a leaderboard position or at the new 1 to 9,500 scale, not at an old number.
    3. If you play near 8,500, read the Immortal Draft text in the client again: official name, private matches, no ranked party.
    4. Check your Role Queue Tokens before you queue, and decide whether you want the auto-select option on.
    5. Check the date on every rank guide and tracker you use. Anything that shows MMR above 9,500 describes the old scale.

If you want help climbing, you have two routes. One-to-one coaching keeps you on your own account. Boosting, such as our Divine boost or Immortal boost, means a booster plays on your account. On our order page you can chat live with your booster and our team, and your Steam login goes into an encrypted box that only your booster (and our admins, if needed) can open and that is deleted when the order is done.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset my MMR in Dota 2?

There is no seasonal reset to wait for: Valve hasn't announced one since patch 7.33 in April 2023, when calibration moved to rank confidence. Valve's patch notes do mention an MMR Recalibration button (a May 2025 patch fixed it), and our calibration guide explains recalibration and rank confidence. The July 30 change was not something players triggered. Valve applied it to Immortal accounts.

What is the max MMR in Dota 2 now?

Valve says all players are now between 1 and 9,500 MMR, so 9,500 is the top of the scale for now. Valve has not said whether it is a permanent ceiling. Before the change, news sites reported the best player near 18,000.

What MMR do you need for Immortal Draft?

Valve says the cutoff is still 8,500 MMR, as of the July 30, 2026 notes. Valve's March 2025 rules for that line say all your ranked games are Immortal Draft, you need an official name, and you cannot queue as a party. Because the numbers were rescaled and the cutoff was not, win.gg and TalkEsport report that some high-MMR players lost access or may be locked out for now.

Was Ranked Classic removed from Dota 2?

Yes. Valve's July 30, 2026 notes say Ranked Classic and Random Draft were removed from Ranked. Ranked Classic was the queue with no role selection. As of patch 7.41f, Valve's notes do not bring either one back.

How do role queue tokens work now?

Role queue tokens are the currency behind Ranked Roles queueing. On July 1, 2026, Valve changed the spending rule: a solo player avoids the cost by selecting at least one high-demand role. On July 30, new accounts got 5 tokens at their first Ranked unlock, plus an optional setting that selects all roles for you when you have none. Valve's notes do not say how tokens are earned, so check the Ranked Play tab.

    Bottom Line

Valve did not reset Dota 2 MMR for everyone in 2026. On July 30 it rescaled Immortal MMR into a 1 to 9,500 range and kept leaderboard positions, and reports say Divine and lower accounts were left alone. For most players the real changes are in the queue: Ranked Classic and Random Draft are gone, new accounts start with 5 role queue tokens, and there is a new auto-select option. Treat Valve's page as the final word, and check the numbers in your own client.
